How to maintain your skin care routine between facials

You’ve just had a facial and you’re wondering how to maintain your skincare routine until your next appointment.   Most experts recommend having a facial every four to six weeks to thoroughly cleanse your skin and get rid of any build-up of sebum and dead cells.  It’s also a good way to relax and unwind, as you take some time out for selfcare.

Facials keep the skin looking younger, by increasing oxygen by stimulation, to help cells regenerate. Massaging the face keeps it firm, tight and youthful looking. Therefore, it’s important to maintain your skin to keep that post-facial feeling for as long as possible. Follow these five steps and you’ll notice the benefits for your skin.

Establish a skincare regime. Develop your own day and night routine with the products used during the facial. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing in the morning and night are essential. At  Cher-Mere, we cater to all skin types, with our full range of natural products including cleansers, toners, day/night moisturizers, face scrubs and masks.

Be consistent. Once you’ve established your regime, stick to it.  This means that even when you are tired, you must first take off your make-up (you can use Cher-Mere’s natural actives makeup remover/cleanser) and continue with the regime.

Exfoliate your skin once a week. This can be done with any of Cher-Mere facial scrubs based on your skin.  These include the moringa for all skin types, charcoal for oily to combination skin and chocolate for dry skin.

Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and excess dirt and should be followed by a moisturizer (natural actives rejuvenate night care), to give it a healthy glow. You can follow your exfoliation with a mask (moringa, charcoal, chocolate, aloe & oatmeal) to revive tired-looking skin.

Let your skin breathe. Make sure that you take off your makeup before bed every night. On weekends, allow your skin to breathe by using less or even no makeup.

Eat well and stay hydrated.  This makes a big difference when it comes to skincare. Drinking two to three litres of water does wonders for your complexion, especially if your skin is dehydrated.  Eating lots of vegetables and fruit is the most natural way to be kind to your skin, as it reflects what you put into your body.  Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Supplementing your diet with multivitamins also works well to maintain skin, hair and nails.

You may notice at different times, your skin behaves differently.  To find out what’s going on with your skin, book an appointment for a facial skin analysis at any of our four Cher-Mere day spas located at 25 Robertson Street-San Fernando, Upper Level, Trincity Mall, Upper Level, Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas and 23 Cipriani Boulevard, Port of Spain.
